Call to Action: Tell Congress You Support Proper Funding for Humanitarian Assistance for Refugees
Each year, Congress must appropriate funds to keep the U.S. government running and its programs effective. The process for FY 18 (October 1, 2017 - September 30, 2018) has already begun. MFA anticipates there will be efforts to cut funding for international humanitarian aid and domestic resettlement efforts for Syrian refugees, a population that can afford that least. Safeguarding the American public and welcoming desperate strangers are not mutually exclusive. MFA supports both -- and sufficient funding to do so.
105 Members of Congress and 21 Senators have already made this plea to the leadership of the U.S. House and Senate Appropriations Committees, respectively. We urge you to do so. We will keep you apprised as events unfold through the spring and summer months.
CALL THE APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEES AND YOUR MEMBERS OF CONGRESS TODAY...AND KEEP DOING SO!

Sample Script: “I’m your constituent from [City, State][skip this language if the Committees] and I support both national security and Syrian refugee resettlement. I strongly urge sufficient funding in the various Departments of State, Health&Human Services, and Homeland Security accounts for FY 18. It is critical that refugee admissions are accompanied by robust international assistance and funds to ensure local communities in the U.S. have the resources they need to help welcome refugees and foster self-sufficiency and integration. Any cuts to, or underfunding of, these programs would jeopardize both our safety and our truest American values. Thank you."
