Shadi Martini displayed a picture of eight Syrian children in a Turkish refugee camp. "These people are persecuted," he said Wednesday evening at Valparaiso University. "They are fleeing from the horrors we want to fight."
Martini, a representative with the Multifaith Alliance for Syrian Refugees, shared their stories and his for more than 80 people at the event, the second of three sessions he was expected to attend Wednesday and Thursday in Lake and Porter counties. Other appearances were scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at Indiana University Northwest in Gary and Thursday at Purdue University Northwest in Hammond.
