Call to Action Following Ninth Circuit Court Decision

The United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit temporarily delayed implementation of significant parts of the January 27, 2017 Executive Order, “Protecting the Nation from Terrorist Attacks by Foreign Nationals.” The decision permits immigrants and refugees to travel until the lower court can consider the merits of this case. The fight is far from over.

*****MFA URGES ANY ELIGIBLE TO TRAVEL TO DO SO IMMEDIATELY*****

Please let both the Administration and the Congress know that you OPPOSE any action that could work to deny legal entry and resettlement to anyone, regardless of nationality or religion, and SUPPORT rescinding the current Executive Order.

  • Call your Member of Congress and your two Senators and tell them you OPPOSE the Executive Order and SUPPORT H.R.724 or S.240 to nullify it. Do this daily.

  • Members of Congress will be at home February 18-26. Visit them or attend any district meetings they sponsor.

  • Call the White House and reaffirm that refugees are not terrorists. National security vetting for every refugee takes 18 months to two years and the majority of Syrian refugees seeking protection in the US are women and children. Tell the White House that you are OPPOSED to anti-Muslim orders like this one and ask them to RESCIND this Executive Order.

  • Encourage your faith leader(s) to call on parishioners and congregants to join the growing US resistance to any Executive Orders, or state and federal legislation, that target people of the Muslim faith. Anti-Muslim measures do not prevent terrorism, but they do undermine religious principles and the foundation upon which America is built.
