Letter To The Editor: Let the refugees in
Manhattan: Re "Syrian child star Quasi Abtini killed in war-torn Aleppo" (Aug. 1):
The death of 14-year-old Abtini is symbolic of our country's need to be more receptive to resettling Syrian refugees, 80% of whom are women and children. These people are not a danger to America or our way of life; they are the victims of terror and violence. Syrian refugees are subjected to enhanced screening - the most stringent security checks of any kind of traveler to the U.S., through a process that takes more than a year and a half. It is a myth that the U.S. is lenient in its admissions program. And no one is safe inside Syria. For the millions who are trapped there, it is not a choice, and often is a death sentence.
